Working on the #AStandardDeviation demo for Steam and thought it would be cool to end it with a teaser montage thingy that would pique the player's curiosity.

Recently I have been converting some rooms of #AStandardDeviation that had a top-down view to rooms with a side view.

Removing half of a degree of freedom (2d movement becomes 1d + 1d with gravity) eliminates the artificial difficulty that some testers found in the Tower puzzles.

But also this change reinforces the idea that the player is actually climbing the Tower rather than just moving inside its floors.

Wait, it's 2026? Anyway these past holidays I've been refining some interactions and fixing some issues that came out of some recent playtests.

A couple of those things are the items menu and radio that I retouched a bit with some new sprites and vfx.

This #ScreenshotSaturday I present the second playable character of #AStandardDeviation: Rougeanne, captain of the space-pirates.

She is playable only for a small portion of the game but hopefully her unique toolset and more combat-oriented playstyle will make up for that.

This week I've been working on some cutscenes for #AStandardDeviation.

The campfire cutscenes will provide some downtime and humour and hopefully they will spark some curiosity towards the lore of the island and of the universe of the game.

The core mechanic of A Standard Deviation is that pretty much everything can be fragmented into colored clones.

Those clones were blending a bit too much with the background, so this week I've added and tweaked some post-processing effects to make them easier to see when on their own.

Updating an old puzzle.

Here is the wall creature and it's garden.
The wall creature is not quite satisfied by the colors of its flowers.
The player can help the wall creature by bashing the flowers together until more pleasing colors appear.

Went for a swim in the underground lake.

In it you may find whirlpools that can shake you quite a bit. Perhaps they may be useful for puzzles.

Lately I've been focusing more on things other than gameplay or #vfx. But today I have something worthy of a #ScreenshotSaturday.

Some rooms have a diamond that interact with lasers to create light puzzles. Objects in the room appear or disappear based on which rays hit the diamond.
