That seems like a very desperate move, apparently they are running out of money.

So, if you invest a lot of money now, you need to be sure Alphabet will still exist in a century. If they need money this urgently today, question is if they still exist in 5 years though. They might go down when the AI bubble bursts.

Unlikely? That's also what people thought of Lehman Brothers...

Great job @mozilla, you finally made me gather enough spoons to not just move away from your browser, but from firefox-based browsers altogether.

Now, I'm not fully happy to be on Vivaldi, as it's a not fully open source Chrome wearing a silly hat, but I'm also not in the mood to just hope that whatever firefox downstream browser I would choose will keep up to date with both removing all the AI nonsense you add, or to merge security patches in a timely manner.

That said, the moment @servo is mature enough to spawn a good browser, I'll move there.

🤖🔥💥 AGI HYPE RUNS WILD! Tech prophets swear machines will outthink us by 2027! Musk tweets, Altman preaches, and doomsayers stock bunkers while skeptics call it snake oil in a silicon suit. The truth? The bots can’t even count fingers. Humanity still holds the wheel, for now. #AIMadness https://www.realtimetechpocalypse.com/p/stop-believing-the-lie-that-agi-is
Stop Believing the Lie that AGI Is Imminent — "Experts" Have Been Saying This Since 1956!

What did Ilya see? Nothing — he saw nothing, because we're nowhere close to achieving "AGI" (whatever that means exactly).

"AI is now a fundamental part of how we work," Liuson wrote. "Just like collaboration, data-driven thinking, and effective communication, using AI is no longer optional
— it's core to every role and every level."

Microsoft internal memo: 'Using AI is no longer optional.'

Executive Julia Liuson recently told Microsoft managers to include internal AI tool usage when evaluating employee performance.

You can now ask #CoPilot to show your open pull requests on #GitHub 🤦‍♂️

Any guesses as to how much more energy this consumes as opposed to just clicking on "Pull Requests" in the personal link menu?

So apparently, if you are having the function "Run the spelling and grammar checker" in MS Office enabled, it doesn't just only check your spelling and grammar, as it should and claims, anymore. It now (maybe already for a while, never noticed it before) also interprets your texts!

Yes, Microsoft (MS) seems to have the impression to not just know how to spell words correctly or let you know, when forgetting to punctuate.

Noooo, they now even pretend to know (better than yourself!) the meaning and the recipients of your writings.

Context -> MS highlighted a sentence in a text of mine, with the following remark: "More concise language would be clearer for your reader."

What the...!?!! 😡🤮

Imagine Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Schiller, von Bingen, Frisch, Eco, Suttner, Sartre, Shakespeare, Beauvoir or Kafka - you get where I am going - having written all their thoughts, literature, philosophies and proses with MS Word and would have thought, "well now that MS is telling me I really should consider this and revise my work".

We all would be standing back in caves right now and trying to make fire!

Okay I admit, maybe those bigger religious scripts could have partly benefited from this. 😉

Beside my last ironic remark, I absolutely do not think this is where our society should be heading towards!
