Meet 96-Year-Old Kamakshi Patti: A Dedicated Civil Activist in Besant Nagar, Chennai

Kamakshi Patti, a 96-yr-old passionate civil activist, has been a resident of Besant Nagar since 1980. She ran from pillar to post to renovate and safeguard the Schmidt Memorial in 2012 and co-founded SPARK, a civic forum, in 2013. She recalls the days when Adyar was less developed, with few eateries and buses, and people travelling by cycle rickshaws. She continues to fight for the neighbourhood, refusing to pay more than Rs 4 for parking at the beach. Kamakshi is determined to protect her neighbourhood, undeterred by critics.
