Maybe I'm tempted to do a play by post game because I'm using #4thewords (a game/app/thing that encourages you to type words every day), and I think play-by-post is an ideal case for that. In a play-by-post you should ideally respond to the stuff other people type quickly, and even if you're waiting on replies there's always more worldbuilding to do.
Anyone know any good play-by-post arenas or cooperative #worldbuilding projects that are popular in this present epoch?
Also, I drafted this thread in #4thewords, so I guess it works at getting you to write things?
I did notice that the gamification is both an incentive to write things but comes with built-in interruptions - like if you finish battling a set of monsters you will then want to click on things to queue up a new set, grab a quest or re-equip your character. Which is probably fine?
As an experiment, I started using #4thewords, a gamified writing website/app. It uses an RPG gimmick where you fight monsters and do quests, but they way you fight monsters is to type more words. Someone here recommended it; I don't remember who.
I'm a little suspicious of it, because its a gamified/website/app thing, but at least the creators made it clear that "you own the words you write into this thing" and also "we won't train an AI on this" which at least made me willing to try it.
#Wordweavers Day 3 - Is your MC a good cook? Any special dishes?
Yeah, oddly enough...
Currently, the book opens with a brief cosmic birth "dream" sequence where Walen experiences a 3rd person reliving of a time he was naked in a lover's kitchen flipping omelettes for their post love snack.
IDK about Minerva, because I hadn't thought about it...
I'm going to guess she's a protein bars & hot pockets kinda gal TBH 🤣

In case you didn't already know, 4thewords has a free tier now! I remember I was able to get a LOT of words out for one of my drafts using the free trial about a year ago, so I'll definitely be trying it again!
Basically, it helps gamify the act of writing by allowing you to set up 'battles' in which you defeat a monster by getting out a certain word count. Once you've defeated the monster, you get loot that lets you fulfill various quests and customize your avatar.
Of course, I've gamified my writing in other ways before (using writtenkitten.co*, OhWrite, buying a figurine and letting myself open it once I reached a certain word count, etc), but I remember writing was especially fun with this site's rpg-type mechanics. Hopefully the daily word/battle limits won't be too low.
*I'd also forgotten about writtenkitten until this point. I've mainly been using OhWrite recently. I'll have to use it again sometime too...
#4thewords, the writing gamification site I've been using/playing for 8 years has a free account option now! They also put up a post about their big November-ish writing event (it actually starts late October and ends in early December because they really like events.)

I’m to take a break from writing my third “Coins of Destiny” book this November. I need to do way more pre-planning. Instead, I think I’ll write either a pulp short story or novel. I’m toying with trying 4thewords, but won’t if I can’t import what I write.
