And #Linux's survival isn't just because #Hurd still sucks hard and when Linux got started #386BSD wasn't there yet, but because @torvalds (or rather @linuxfoundation) know how to play all the angles and sway all the competing sides into contributing because it's in their own interests…

In returm I don't subscribe into the conspiracy theory that Microsoft only invests in Linux to enshure it's not gonna threaten Windows. That ship sailed out ofsight wjen MSSQL started supporting Linux…

@PurpleJillybeans simple: #Linux on #i386 predated #386BSD and #drivers are much more common and easier to write for it than #FreeBSD.

Plus a lot of "fresh blood" flocked towards Linux…

El 14 de julio de 1992 se libera la versión 0.1 del OS 386BSD desarrollado por Lynne y William Jolitz con la idea de portar BSD Net/2 a procesadores Intel 386.
Fue uno de los primeros sistemas operativos libres. Destacó por innovaciones como seguridad basada en roles, búferes en anillo, configuración auto-ordenada y un diseño modular del núcleo.
Hoy, esta descontinuado, pero su código base se usa en proyectos como NetBSD, OpenBSD y FreeBSD.
