But I had forgotten what a weird movie it is! It looks more like a Dogme 95 movie than a horror movie from the noughties. The movie was mostly shot on Sony DV SD video (except the last 5 min. which was shot on film) and it looks ugly. There is no question about it. However the shots are beautifully arranged by DP Anthony Dod Mantle. The strange ugly visual style does give it a unique quality. It feels like you are watching a TV series or perhaps even home video from the early 2000s. The opening images of a deserted London are still impressive, and I am sure everything would be made with CG today.
The film still leaves an impact and it hits even harder in a post covid world!
Director Danny Boyle is a completely different director today, so I doubt #28yearslater will be as experimental as the previous film, but it might bring a more mature version to the table with a deeper emotional impact. I remain hopeful for a great sequel especially since Alex Garland is also doing the script. @UKFilmNerd
