How Stevie Wonder Helped Lift Lionel Richie’s Curse

Stevie Wonder once lifted a curse off Lionel Richie. Or at least, that’s what Richie believes.

Back in the early days, before he became a global superstar, Richie was struggling to break through. He was talented, he had the voice, but something always seemed to hold him back. Bad luck followed him everywhere – failed deals, missed opportunities, a general sense that something wasn’t quite right. It got to the point where he genuinely believed he was cursed.

Enter Stevie Wonder.

One day, Richie told Wonder about his string of bad luck, probably half-joking but with a hint of desperation. Wonder, being Stevie Wonder, took it seriously. Without missing a beat, he told Richie that he was indeed cursed – but that he could fix it.

Now, whether Wonder truly believed in the curse or was just playing along is anyone’s guess, but what happened next stuck with Richie for life. Stevie put his hands on him, said some words – Richie has never revealed exactly what – and just like that, the curse was lifted.

From that moment on, things changed. Lionel Richie skyrocketed to fame, first with The Commodores and then as a solo artist. He went from struggling musician to one of the biggest names in the industry. And he credits Stevie Wonder with breaking whatever was holding him back.

It’s easy to dismiss as coincidence, but Richie swears by it. Maybe it was the power of belief – sometimes, all you need is for someone you admire to tell you that your luck is changing. Or maybe, just maybe, Stevie Wonder really did have the power to lift a curse.
