Daniella:
“As an Admiral of the Force, I expect to see the President. I expect he can’t possibly be fully booked for more than a few days. I expect to talk to the President. Are you going to stop me from talking to the President?”

Polar Bear growls.

“The President will call or text at his own good pleasure.”

“... You haven’t opened an official inquiry, into the biggest defeat of Earth ever. You haven’t asked me for even a written report, or even unshackled my wrists since I was misidentified as a #POW . I appreciate Vice President Chainsaw for being here, but he has been less than vigilant in protecting my due process rights as a citizen and duly commissioned Admiral of the Force.”

Admiral Danielle B. Eve stands her ground.

“Respectfully, Commander, I’ve just described witnessing the biggest loss of human - excuse me - Earthling life, in all of recorded civilized history in all dimensions. Within minutes you’ve threatened me with extrajudicial murder, despite having character witnesses for me in the very room, and asked me to resign from the Force...”

This is the part of the story were we can cheaply invoke the gift of #friendship and #love conquers all. But that’s not the moral, of course; this is a war story. Admiral Danielle Bethany Eve, First Class, Earth Force - had perfect recollection of seeing Earth destroyed; she was duty bound to serve the Force and offer intelligence and know how, and not see it destroyed again. She also remembered the whistleblower protections from basic training.

Polar Bear:
“Not your cup of tea? Ok, let’s try again. I would like you to look Private Kaitlin in the eye, her pretty bunny eyes, and tell her that you misremembered and you weren’t actually #friends before joining the Force. Then get the hell out of my Command and find suitable employment for your talents, and leave this war to the experts. You can’t fight monkeys. You can’t fight humans. We can.”

Somehow Daniella is guided to walk to the far corner of the corridor, and she sees what appears to be an large, empty glass box. Big enough for a person to fit in.

Polar Bear:
“Do you see what that is? Of course you don’t, you’re a #human . That’s radon gas, turned up piping hot, just how you like it. Think of it as an unpaid #spa day. Helps to clear up your head.”

Polar Bear:
“As a combat decorated admiral first class, you are committing a serious violation of #military law by fraternizing with a private. That’s exploitation of a power #imbalance and as your Supreme Commander I’ll not have it. Now I don’t know what alternate dimension you crash landed in here from, but here at Earth High Command, we’re pragmatic. Sometimes we punish infractions by the book, and sometimes we’re a bit more rushed with things. We trust our leaders.”

An #autonomous vacuum cleaner rolls by.

“Chirp chirp! Haha, sucky laugh! Sucky hear tell #funny #joke story.”

Commander Polar Bear grunts, clearing throat. “Urkm! I sympathize with your plight. We’ve all got problems, though, like for example the fleet of #spacecraft full of bipedal hominids coming to fire nuks at our planet. That’s not your fault of course. Do you know what is your fault?”

Daniella:
“What’s a human, anyway? What is an animal? It’s crazy - it’s unbelievable - but where I come from, two legged monkeys that walk upright and throw sticks and hold pens and push buttons with ten fingers - those things - those things don’t come from across the stars. Those things evolved in the mud, on that blue and green planet we see right there. And we shot nuks at unfriendly ships coming our direction. We were the defenders, Kait. Defenders. And we lost.”
