Hey folks - I'm looking for some recommendations for #Homelab #networking. Previously used a Ubiquiti Dream Machine but for reasons I won't go into, I'm no longer going to be using those.

Currently tinkering with the idea of a PFSense/Opnsense box with some APs from somewhere else, or alternatively, some Mikrotik gear.

All suggestions welcome, please boost for visibility!

@ashcorpdev I'm running VyOS on an HP 800 G3 SFF, an old Brocade ICX 6450 core switch, and a mixed bag of Omada and UniFi switch gear and APs. Controllers for both are running as containers on the router box.

@gill3tt3 IMO if you're bought into UniFi and you find yourself needing that many PoE ports then it makes sense. If you only need a few PoE ports it might make more sense to hang them off injectors or something smaller like a USW-Lite-16-PoE.

Hey so for everyone who follows me here, I'm going to be moving to @zrail soonish.

I'm grateful to the mastodon core team for maintaining mastodon.social but there's an ocean of smaller instances out there. At least one where I have some friends has publicly announced plans to defederate with mastodon.social and I don't want to lose those connections.
