@taylorlorenz I think part of the trick is how it would look if, say, you (who I follow) quote-posted something from an instance that my own instance has de-federated from. Would there be some kind of message in place of the quote-post explaining that it's been blocked? Would there now be a secondary level of security where an instance can block another but allow quote-posts from it?

Ironically, the current solution — screenshotting — completely bypasses any kind of black-listing/blocking tech.

Still trying to decide on a new instance. Pretty much narrowed it down to:
• aethy.com
• artsocial.boston
• nsfwphotography.social

Frankly, the biggest weapon we have against #Threads is exposing to their users that members of other Mastodon servers are extremely happy (and completely functional) elsewhere, and they would be, too.

Being invisible to them does nothing.

And telling them that migrating off of Threads to another Mastodon server likely means that they will lose access to all of their Threads followers/follows is worse than nothing; it's the exact reason they haven't left already.

In the same way that marriage rights are really divorce rights, one of the great things about Mastodon servers is that you can easily leave them.

I'm going to begin the process of migrating off of photog.social.

If my e-mail provider declared their belief that Google was a monopolistic terror, and that they were therefore going to block all incoming and outgoing e-mail from or to Gmail, I would certainly have to leave them also.

Leave the blocking to me.

#Luminar Neo is the latest package hitching their wagon to the late-capitalist subscription model train, doing away with the ability to purchase extensions outright; they must now be subscribed to, in the interest of "simplicity" for their customers.

I feel about generative AI the way I do about software like Blender or Daz Studio: it's wonderful if you can create a photorealistic image with it — a genuine expression of both aesthetics and talent — just don't be deceitful about your methods.

I can't imagine someone creating a landscape image using Daz Bryce 7 Pro, submitting it to a photo competition, and then reveling in fooling the board when given an award. I know "promptographers" have chips on their shoulders, but come on.

W3C has posted that we are no longer active on X/Twitter and have directed all our followers here to Mastodon.

We are encouraging all W3C-related accounts to do the same.

Playing around with Imagine with Meta AI:
➊ "A professional American football player riding a unicorn by moonlight, photorealistic, dramatic lighting, cinematic"
➋ "An ancient pyramid wooden lodge built by viking aliens in a wintry tundra, edge light, well lit, bokeh"
➌ "The Mona Lisa if she was a cyborg designed by Apple"
➍ "This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius; let the sun shine in."
➎ "A giant peacock swatting down airplanes while wrapped around Big Ben"
➏ "A Jack Kirby drawing of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
➐ "Beware: the mailman is considering performing acts of unspeakable evil, and is not to be trusted."
How AI is fooling the photography world

In this episode of Status Update, Becca Farsace visits “promptographer” Boris Eldagsen in Berlin, Germany, to learn how he uses generative AI programs like DALL-E and Midjourney to create photorealistic images that rival real photos.

@darktable My mother (of three) told me the exact same thing about having an only child.
