freshtomato.org, openwrt, etc are all so good. I can't believe it took me so long to find them.

Ok so I went to the room with the AP, and tried to fix it on my phone, and my phone was trying to get me to install the netgear app.

Fine, if it works, but I can't use the app unless I make an account on netgear's website.

WTF I just want to use the thing I own to fix my home network what is this.

Not sure if I've ever been so impressed by open source as yesterday, when I installed an OSS firmware on my wifi router.

Since I bought my netgear routers several years ago, firmware updates have made them very annoying. I had two routers set up, one as a main DHCP and a second as a dumb access point. I configured the main one, then I needed to access the AP.

I tried to go to the IP address of the AP, and the router redirected me to routerlogin.net, which the main recognizes as itself....

Movements like strong towns (and many videos by @notjustbikes) are so precious because they provide powerful conservative arguments for those who don't bike, those who live in surburbs, and those who are voting for the conservative parties, ..., not just preaching to the liberal choir.

My name is Jesse. I live in in condo in Chicago with my wife and our four cats. We don't own a car, and love biking and taking transit around the city. I am a left of center YIMBY, have taken part in some local safe streets/biking activism.

In my free time I like to play turn based tactical video games, watch new films of all sorts (love the movie theater!), and try out new restaurants and explore Chicago's many awesome neighborhoods.

Professionally I am a data scientist, but have never liked talking about work so I will almost certainly not talk about it here.

It's good here. There are a couple things I'm missing - maybe people can help out:

* I have multiple accounts at the same instance and one account at another instance. I wish it were easier to switch accounts. Even on bird it's not that easy to like a post from a different account. Mastodon app doesn't cooperate with multi-account on one instance
* On desktop I'm using firefox with different profiles to be logged in more than once.

SlowStreets organizes for pedestrian (car-free) zones around Chicago. We take our inspiration from cities like Montreal, New York, and Boulder, which have built successful car-free zones and measured increased revenues and decreased pedestrian and cyclist crashes. We host weekly bike jams for a car-free Clark Street in Andersonville and support local candidates that support pedestrianizing our streets. #introduction
