Not sure if I've ever been so impressed by open source as yesterday, when I installed an OSS firmware on my wifi router.

Since I bought my netgear routers several years ago, firmware updates have made them very annoying. I had two routers set up, one as a main DHCP and a second as a dumb access point. I configured the main one, then I needed to access the AP.

I tried to go to the IP address of the AP, and the router redirected me to routerlogin.net, which the main recognizes as itself....

Ok so I went to the room with the AP, and tried to fix it on my phone, and my phone was trying to get me to install the netgear app.

Fine, if it works, but I can't use the app unless I make an account on netgear's website.

WTF I just want to use the thing I own to fix my home network what is this.

freshtomato.org, openwrt, etc are all so good. I can't believe it took me so long to find them.
