just a human (the way Carl Sagan pronounces it) spending my remaining days wandering, #dumpsterdiving and #refurbishing old tech. posting stuff here so I don't bother a live people.

frequently find metformin whilst #dumpsterdiving, seem to remember this is like THE longevity drug... any truth to that?

is it safe trying it out? experiences, dosages?

#askfedi #health

is my stuff #retrocomputing? this one https://defcon.social/@yuman/116601226418831983 is 13 years old, what's the cutoff? is it years or something tangible, like a tape player or floppy drive?
in a follow-up, we're removing the #staingate coating: https://defcon.social/@yuman/116601226418831983

so 30 minutes later, I guess we're done here.

this one (2013) was OK. I was also successful with a 2012. I was totally unsuccessful with a 2015, I think they changed the formula for the anti-reflective coating, as no method worked on delaminating those.

also, baby wipes work sometimes when listerine don't. again, ignorant on the details on "how".

/thread

apparently listerine was used to clean toilettes once. no idea how someone made the jump from "clean the shitter" to "swish it around your mouth"...

also, women were forced to use this crap on their private parts, presumably for the pleasant odor?

so, we're going with cotton pads and listerine. yeah, the mouthwash. this thing either corrodes the coating or just provides adequate lubrication, I'm ignorant on the details on how. what I do know is that it works.

slow and steady, moderate pressure, there's a LCD panel underneath that don't respond well to pressure.

apple being apple had a solution - they'd replace THE WHOLE SCREEN during the warranty period. five will get you ten them screens got shredded into some toxic sludge and dumped on some corals or something...

oh, and those new screens ALSO started flaking after a coupla years! also, I'm sure it's loaded with some PFAS horrors, but I ain't too keen on investigating the details...

do what? well, otherwise known as #staingate, retinas got anti-reflective coating that makes the glass screen kinda matte thus making it usable in bright-lit environments. trouble is, this coating starts flaking after a coupla years and after a decade+ it looks like someone threw up on your screen, which is what we got here.

hey #permacomputing do you need a solid workout for your forearms? do you think your #macbook pro retina should smell like the dentist's office?

then join me in delaminating the screen!
