Journalists keep characterizing these protests as “anti-war” while the students themselves are saying something radically different. “Intifada” doesn’t mean “stop the war.” Intifada here means “attack and kill Jews.”
That’s no anti-war message because these aren’t anti-war protests.
We should not cut down fruit trees outside a city nor prevent an irrigation ditch from bringing water to them so that they dry up, as Deuteronomy 20:19 states: 'Do not destroy its trees.' Anyone who cuts down such a tree should be lashed.
This does not apply only in a siege, but in all situations. Anyone who cuts down a fruit tree with a destructive intent, should be lashed.
Sharing a very important message I received via email today from Combatants for Peace, an organization composed of former Israeli and Palestinians fighters who have laid down their arms:
"Our hearts break as we witness the violence unfolding in Israel and Palestine.
We wept and watched in horror as Palestinian militants killed hundreds of Israeli civilians and kidnapped innocent women, children, and the elderly. We now hurt and grieve as the lives of so many innocent Palestinian civilians are taken in Gaza. As politicians stoke the flames of hatred, violence, and division, it is the innocent that suffer. For our movement of Israelis and Palestinians, the pain is unbearable. And yet, no matter what, our activists’ commitment to one another and to a nonviolent future of peace and freedom for all is unwavering.
