Ok. I'm going to cop it. However, i've copped it all my life, so what evs.
How is it that i get called 'cis' (a term i have NOT chosen for myself, nor do i use) but 'trans' ppl get called women?
It is bitchy co-opted language & it is unsettling being forced out of using our own term for ourselves.
Especially for women who have done it hard. Just for seeking independance. It was fvcken hard being seen as equally intelligent at school. It's fvcken hard being a provider, without having the socially acceptable male around, which has meant i will never own my own home given the single income. It's fvcken hard being seen as equally competent in the workplace, while being paid less watching men climb ladders into positions you are probably more experienced in. While men have gawked at your chest, arse & 're-adjusted' themselves openly & constantly while trying to get them to concentrate. It's fvcken hard bringing up children & grandchildren on your own in an overtly colonial, male dominated society. It's fvcken hard having lived through domestic violence & selfish sex. It's fvcken hard having women suspicious of you as they hold onto the husbands they think you're going to steal. Yet our homes better be spick & span.
I've lived through it ALL MY LIFE & always landed on my feet only to now be regarded as some sort of enemy. For being a woman, a female. Again. Still.
You wouldn't have a fvcken clue. My understanding is demanded without considering my energy is spent surviving.
