Dieses PeerTube Update ist wirklich wichtig. Es fixt nicht nur eine Sicherheitslücke (abhängig von der Vorversion) sondern entfernt auch ein potentiell unauthorisiert installiertes Plugin, welches wohl darauf spezialisiert ist Zugangsdaten zu stehlen, insbesondere wenn ihr OAuth nutzt.

Das Plugin war auch auch auf Eloquer installiert. Mit dem Update ist es verschwunden. In dem Fall dürfte kein Schaden entstanden sein, da kein OAuth Token genutzt wurde, aber wer weiß wie die Lücke sonst noch hätte ausgenutzt werden können. Hoffen wir dass damit erstmal wieder Ruhe ist :)

Habt ihr eine Instanz und braucht Hilfe beim Aktualisieren? Die PeerTube Doku ist da eigentlich recht ausführlich, aber fragt gerne auch nach!

In case you missed it, there is a serious security vulnerability on PeerTube servers running server software older than v8.1.8.

You can see a PeerTube server's version by going to its website, then clicking "More Info", then "Technical Information".

If a PeerTube server you use is running older software, please ask its admin to update to v8.1.8 right now.

(The actual vulnerability was removed in v8.1.6, but v8.1.8 also removes any attacks that began before that.)

Do you run your own PeerTube server? Does it seem a bit empty? You can solve this by showing videos from other servers too, here's a guide:

The guide also includes a list of recommended servers you might want to federate to your server. (You can also just federate specific accounts/channels if you don't want to federate an entire server's content.)

Federating doesn't take up space on your server, the video files remain on the other server.

I managed to fix the HTTP import on #FloofTube (https://flooftube.net) last night!  

It'd been down since 1st January 2026 and I found out the HTTP proxy details had changed.

That said, the proxy still runs at 56 KB/s so it can only download 1 video at a time. That might sound slow (because it is  ) , YouTube's designed to blacklist anyone trying to download videos (without ads) so it has to use a slow proxy to workaround it.

If you're uploading to FloofTube, it's recommended to upload directly.  

If you have a large batch of videos to upload, you could always send me an online storage link with the high res videos (DM me here) and I'll upload them for you (add me as an editor to the channel and remove me once complete). I can upload them on a 10Gbps link to the server, but it'll still be bottle-necked by the encoder trying to create the different resolutions.

Wish there were more offline import options like being able to manually import the yt-dlp metadata with the video...
