I personally feel like these are just communication issues that could be addressed during the shopping and purchansing experience—but they're issues I'd never heard before first-hand

hi everyone—I have a few notes on type licensing from within an industry: medical (US)

(my company makes custom wheelchair cushions for people who live in their chair 24/7)

1) font licensing for these folks, unaccustomed to thinking about it, is very weird. nobody understands why some but not all foundries charge based on licensee's size. for seat-based licenses, none of them understands why they should buy for the number of users when there is no material difference in what they download. none of them understand why an OEM license exists.

2) there's zero understanding of why a font file from a craftsperson is any different from a free font.

this was pretty eye-opening for me—thought it might be helpful to you folks

political people are losing their minds that this appeared outside the oval office—probably just a mockup (note that it’s printed on paper)

but I couldn’t find a Commercial Script variant that actually matched it—does anyone know what it is?

I’m actually just curious what typeface sources this administration knows about considering the obviously quotidian taste level

hi, some personal news, listed:

1) House of Pretty Ltd and its domain are no more

2) House of Pretty has been supplanted by Texts, LLC, which is at textsss.com (because it’s funny to talk about such a deeply sibilant URL)

3) I don’t know what Texts does yet, because I got a great job offer—and took it—literally the same week I established Texts, thereby blowing a hole in my plans, but that’s ok

3) XO Type Co is fine! and still there!

hello, my bluesky people are demanding that I find out who did the Zohran for NYC typography, so I told them I’d ask

did anyone here make this? you have a lot of new fans.

Adobe’s gonna increase price point for All Apps because of its AI tools, and non-AI subs are going to become a different price tier, so put your renewal date on your calendar to adjust if necessary https://www.theverge.com/news/670241/adobe-ai-creative-cloud-all-apps-pro-increase
Adobe is switching some Creative Cloud users to a pricier AI plan

The Creative Cloud All Apps plan will be renamed Creative Cloud Pro for users in the US, Canada, and Mexico, adding more AI and a higher price tag.

the new Wacom Intuos Pro pen and tablet designs are pretty amazing, if anyone is waiting to buy

I bought the small size, which is TINY, and perfect for desktop use—about 3” smaller than the previous generation’s footprint from what I can see

the new pen includes a ton of optional pieces which allow you to vary the size, weight, and nib resistance to be comfortable

this is not a paid ad; I just refuse to use anything but a stylus and have been a Wacom fan since like 1995 :)

chat who do we like for disc brakes on our bikes

I’m riding a Jamis Aurora frame from like 2009 and I’m trying to get rid of as much cable clutter as I can

(also this is me announcing that my shattered scapula and wrist and ribs are all finally working right again after my October 21 wreck)

does anyone know the currently favored notion for how opsz works within apps and browsers? I haven’t looked in forever and now I don’t know where to

is it: optical size automatically updates as it should, depending on size, and the user can manually change however they like

OR

is it: optical size is left entirely up to the user, doesn’t change automatically

Incredible report on fonts on the web, by Bram Stein and Charles Berret:

Maybe the most optimistic stat for indie font makers:

“This year, there has been a significant increase in exclusive self-hosting (desktop: from 22% in 2022 to 28%; mobile: from 28% in 2022 to 34%).”
