A few months ago I searched for "100 best novels", confident I would fly thru from a to zed. I am someone who secretly prided himself on having read all the classics when I was young. "yes, yes, yes, read it, boring, yes, so good, easy, yes" until my finger found Little Women where it stopped in its tracks, stood still. Now here I am, intimate with Jo, Laurie, and be rest of them, turning pages as long as they let me. I am 51% of the way through Little Women. Back I go once again ....

While cooking I kept thinking of what
@neiltyson said about the common ancestor of humans and mushrooms being closer than the common ancestor of plants and mushrooms.
I wanted a snack last night so I cooked up a pound of sliced mushrooms in a skillet with minced garlic, a couple splashes of worcester, lemon juice, and salt & pepper. My teenagers came running downstairs and consumed the whole pan in minutes.
It smelled great.

My watch battery was low but I was too tired to walk downstairs and get the charger so I took it off, placed it on my nightstand and prepared to go to bed. A minute later I hear this woman asking if I'm okay. It was 911. My watch, on its own, called 911 and told them that I'd had a hard fall.
Now I'm wide awake. Plenty alert enough to go downstairs and get that charger.
Let's make this a better place than what came before it. Let's give each other a little grace.
