Both DoorDash and UberEats are now including AI generated menu item descriptions. Probably something to be aware of if you have food allergies. 😐 #AI #UberEats #DoorDash #fuckAI
@nixCraft This is like the first new phone OS feature/change I've seen in probably five years that made me go "Oh, that sounds like an unambiguously good thing that I would actually want."

An Instagram account called No Sleep For ICE is posting the locations of Los Angeles-area hotels where ICE agents are staying so protestors can go play loud music and bang drums in front of them. #resist #resistance #losangeles #ice #news

everything is so fucking stupid

Retro computing friends,

Has anyone done a reverse engineering of the Stacker compressed disk volume format (stacvol.dsk)? It was a predecessor to DoubleSpace/DriveSpace via third-party software for DOS.

I have a volume compressed with it that might have data of historical significance, but I believe there was some fs damage, so sufficient knowledge to process it manually would probably be better than trying to setup a VM capable of reading it only to be greeted with errors and no tooling to debug them.

Boosts for reach welcome!

@RationalizedInsanity The Humvees aren't even the scary part right now. ICE has mostly abandoned heavy vehicles, and the Guard isn't currently doing much.

The scary part is ICE (and other feds) having adopted lower profile tactics, so they might jump out of any random unmarked car and start popping tear gas with no warning. The guys in the humvees are just around in case the secret police need to get bailed out while doing something outrageous.

@cdarwin At times like this, I am reminded of the several years of interregnum between the Trump administrations when a lot of people were screaming about the need to make actual rules that would defend against a bad President not caring about norms. And a lot of Very Serious people insisted that was a stupid idea.
In the last five years, we've gone from "employees will never have to go into an office" to "employees need to be in the office because creative and innovative work can only be done face-to-face between humans" to "lol we don't need humans"

#WordWeavers 26 — MC POV: Would you rather be able to see 1 week into the future on your birthday OR always remember where you put something you keep losing?

Aww, my whole story is that she can time travel, but show loses the future-tech zombie killing Omega Bomb and has to track it down. If she knew where the Omega Bomb was the whole time, I'd be out of a screenplay! Fortunately, her roommate can SQL query package shipping databases to help her find it.

@jupiter @knurd42 I'm not saying PNG is bad or anything. I didn't mean to come into the conversation as a hardcore EXR evangelist, ha ha.
Just, if you want an image container for 32 bit float data to use as textures in technical pipelines, PNG might be focused on solving a different set of problems.
