When you see this when shopping smart plugs -> instant smile πŸ˜€.

"No more Chinese cloud when you do not need it. This smart plug works locally. You have full control over what you buy. Note that this socket does not work directly with the Smart Life or Tuya app."

@halikular @loy @aral I am doing that already πŸ˜‰. It is just annoying that the majority of manufacturers have set it as their strategy to make sure people cannot use their products locally, only via their cloud servers.
@loy @aral Exactly, there is also technically no reason why these devices all should be connected themselves to some server of the manufacturer. IOT would be so much more simple if everything just worked locally and connected via standard protocols to a local piece of hardware that makes the connection to the cloud. But no, that is too easy, too privacy friendly and does not yield enough profit.
Top tip voor bedrijven die denken dat alles van Microsoft de way to go is om jouw IP te beschermen: geef de vrijheid aan software ontwikkelaars om het OS te gebruiken van hun keuze (en geef hen admin rechten by default!). Anders jaag je een hoop ontwikkelaars weg. #linux #windows #macos #oswars
@bart @thunderbird I am planning to do the same thing and was just curious: what mail server did you install?

If this comes trough it will not be good for the open source community.

Open-source software vs. the proposed Cyber Resilience Act

::: Sony & PlayStation gamepads - official support OUT OF THE BOX for Linux 6.2

Sony keeps providing 1st class support for their gaming gadgets on Linux!

DualShock 4 (of PS4) controller was supported unofficially via "hid-sony" since Linux 3.15 - but now things get official

All the more - things indeed go even better: backwards compatibility with Sony's older DualShock "hid-playstation" driver.

This particular driver already included (PS5 introduced) official DualSense / DualSense Edge gamepad support.

You can also connect MULTIPLE DualSense gamepads via Bluetooth.

Linux rising as a mainstream gaming platform with rumble - Sony obviously wants gamers to use their gadgets.
