Reflecting lately on the religious-affective difference between miracles and blessings. The former startle, awe, compel belief. The latter drop gently, fit the shape of budding life, leave space for breath. Miracles suggest divine necessity, blessings God's pleasure.
Jesus raising Lazarus: miracle. The depth of his relationship with that family (the shared experience of joy, sorrow, hope): blessing.
