#BookOfMormon Alma 19:22 Now, one of them, ... exceedingly angry with Ammon, drew his sword and went forth that he might let it fall upon Ammon, to slay him; and as he lifted the sword to smite him, behold, he fell dead.

#PersonalStudies Compare to the first assassination by Teancum in Alma 51:34 of the sleeping enemy king. Apparently God's smiting isn't concerned with how but who. This begs an investigation into the sources of perceptions of "honorable" and "dishonorable"

Thoughts from me when I was in Grad School about Gaboon vipers and respecting spiritual danger https://orys.us/uM

Believing in a Devil

The Gaboon Viper1 is an ambush predator. It dwells in the rain forests of West Africa and has the highest venom yield of any snake, meaning that a bite is always a medical emergency. Because of its camouflaged scales most human bites occur when the snake is stepped on by unwitting walkers who had no idea there was a viper nearby. This is an example of the necessity of being aware of hidden danger.

A classic missionary scripture. In what sense are the proclaimers (Missionaries? Prophets? Teachers?) responsible for the blood of others? #Scripture #PersonalStudies #responsibility #BookOfMormon

Jacob 1

Jacob and Joseph seek to persuade men to believe in Christ and keep His commandments—Nephi dies—Wickedness prevails among the Nephites. About 544–421 B.C.

#Obedience. It isn't flashy and doesn't make for good drama. It is popularly written off as childish; we talk about obedience to kids and that's it. When we grow up it can fade from our mind. This is utterly wrong. True maturity is understanding that you are ALWAYS obeying something, and that obedience always has effects; "effects" are what obedience does. "Rebellion" is just recognizing what you are disobeying while staying blind to what you ARE obeying.

#PersonalStudies #BookofMormon All the book of Nephi can be read as a valuable study in #Obedience.

1 Nephi 2:16 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, being exceedingly young, nevertheless being large in stature, and also having great desires to know of the mysteries of God, wherefore, I did cry unto the Lord; and behold he did visit me, and did soften my heart that I did believe all the words which had been spoken by my father; wherefore, I did not rebel against him like unto my brothers.

#PersonalStudies #ComeFollowMe What does it mean that Adam was to “rule over” Eve?

I like that Elder Renlund cast this understanding in terms of ministering. "Rule over" is understood as stewardship and responsibility, not as dominion. This is also how leadership is meant to be, everywhere.
#personalstudies in the #BookofMormon today revisited an old insight. A quick rewording of the passage swaps pessimism for encouragement. https://orys.us/uj
Sufficient the Day

[Matthew 6:34](https://www.lds.org/scriptures/search?lang=eng&query=Matthew 6:34&x=0&y=0) Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. [3 Nephi 13:34](https://www.lds.org/scriptures/search?lang=eng&query=3 Nephi 13:34&x=0&y=0) Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient is the day unto the evil thereof. The crucial difference here is what is sufficient for what.

There is no limit to what can be doubted, and the lie that if it can be doubted it should be doubted. Part of #faith is, Doubts Controlled.
3 Nephi 1

Nephi, the son of Helaman, departs out of the land, and his son Nephi keeps the records—Though signs and wonders abound, the wicked plan to slay the righteous—The night of Christ’s birth arrives—The sign is given, and a new star arises—Lyings and deceivings increase, and the Gadianton robbers slaughter many. About A.D. 1–4.

Helaman 14

Samuel predicts light during the night and a new star at Christ’s birth—Christ redeems men from temporal and spiritual death—The signs of His death include three days of darkness, the rending of the rocks, and great upheavals of nature. About 6 B.C.
