# Evolving Our Tor Relay Security Architecture

https://blog.emeraldonion.org/evolving-our-tor-relay-security-architecture

A new blog post where @alexhaydock goes into some detail showcasing our minimalistic @alpinelinux Tor relays architecture, a threat model, and including a link to our now-public open source "Emerald Relays" orchestration framework.

The past 6 months have proven its success, and now we look forward to phase 2 (read the post!), which we need your help in funding. Emerald Onion is a U.S. 501(c)(3) tax-deductible nonprofit, so please consider donating before 31 December! https://emeraldonion.org/donate/

Happy 2024. Excited to enter the year on the tail end of #37c3 and optimistic for the times to come.
Okay, next up, @willscott talking about Car files, which are kind of like tar files for content-addressed trees of data. Carv1 was a serial dump, Carv2 has an index at the end, and versioning (Versioning! Always a thing for v2!) https://ipld.io/specs/transport/car/carv2/

bluesky is grooving along! If I have any mutuals on here who would be interested in testing our beta app, and use an iphone (in test flight; other clients/apps forthcoming), let me know and I can hook you up

I’ll be giving a talk at the “hacking in parallel” event at the end of the year in Berlin. Trying to summarize recent advances In distributed systems. Excited for a step towards the return of ccc!

Takeaways from the crypto-mines ///Hacking in Parallel – Berlin///

It is useful to separate the economics and scams that surround cryptocurrencies from the systems being built within their auspices. This talk will provide a survey over the distributed systems and cryptographic advances over the last couple years that you may have missed within the hype. On the systems side, we’ll look at advances in byzantine consensus, practically resilient gossip networks, and Distributed Hash Tables. On the cryptography side, we’ll survey recent developments in zero-knowledge proof systems, multi-party computation, and merklized data structures. All 6 of these areas have applicability beyond blockchain construction - with value to p2p and distributed networking, and also in better securing and communicating user data.

can't believe it's 2022 and we're doing Bernie Bro discourse on clean energy

Happy this was written about...but I think the "bros" get off a little light. I've heard from many climate folks that they are open to nuclear, BUT really turned off by the toxic traits of nuclear bros (abusive DMs, gatekeeping, mockery, etc.)

It’s really good to be back at a hacker camp 🏕
