I get asked sometimes, “what’s on your holiday reading list?”
I have an attention span that doesn’t always work for long form books and novels (I used to do that for summer reading as a kid).
However, as an adult, this is now my “fun” reading.

For you DALL-E 2, Lensa, Midjourney and ChatGPT enthusiasts.
I posted this elsewhere discussing the growth of Lensa and awareness among the general public because this was an easy entry way for many into this who are not more technically minded.
This goes to the crawling (and lack thereof of respect for licensing of the data going into the corpus).
These spiders will grab everything without context or relation - think of it as Dr. Ian Malcom's missive from Jurassic Park, of "Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should." moment. However, there's an important part of that speech which is VERY applicable here.. and speaks to the Lensa and other apps out there making a buck off these original research data sets, which is:
"I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here: it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could and before you even knew what you had you patented it and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it, you want to sell it!"
We are very much at this second point.
This is mainly why a “well-heeled" legal team will say “for inspiration only" , no whole cloth use of generative content in content or commercial properties. But with more an more "easy bake ovens" for access to GPT-3 and DALL-E 2, etc. engines, that second lack of acquiring an awareness of the nuances as to the possible harm these will cause and concerns, such as rights issues, privacy, etc. will be discarded for the hard buck unless some ethics start to raise their head and we begin to pause and consider and rather point and say :
"Oh, yeah. Oooh, ahhh, that's how it always starts. Then later there's running and um, screaming."
Make sure there's a good grounding as to how it all works before our heads are bitten off.
