A strong wind event is possible for much of CA next week, but the extreme fire weather threat would remain (mostly) confined to SoCal (and perhaps expanding slightly to encompass parts of Central Coast) where vegetation is much drier than from SF Bay Area northward.
And then too, of course, we also have to stop underlying problem of climate change. (For this & so many other reasons.) But in terms of immediacy of benefits, actions taken at individual, local, & state level to directly address fire resilience are likely more important.
There are some hints that this "progressive" weather pattern (i.e., alternating ridge/trough sequence) will be conducive for a couple of offshore wind events in SoCal during this period. Since no precipitation is expected down south, wildfire risk would likely increase. #CAwx

Rapid transitions between extreme wet and extreme dry conditions — ‘hydroclimate whiplash’ — have marked environmental and societal impacts. This Review outlines observed and projected changes in hydroclimate whiplash, suggesting that subseasonal and interannual volatility will increase markedly with ongoing warming.
