Reflect Orbital wants to destroy the night sky to deliver "sunlight as a service". SpaceX wants to destroy Low Earth Orbit to launch one million "AI datacentres"

The only way to formally protest these two ideas is to file a comment with the US FCC, which is horribly complicated, but the American Astronomical Society has detailed instructions posted here: https://aas.org/posts/advocacy/2026/02/how-submit-comments-satellite-applications-fcc

Comments due March 6 for SpaceX and March 9 for Reflect Orbital. Write! Write! Write!

@flpvsk @nars Heh---we exist _because_ so many people were sad of the right-wing-to-far-right spectrum of typical ham radio clubs. Some others you might want to know about are https://prideradio.group/ or listed at https://amateurradioinclusivitypledge.org/docs/ogranizations-we-love/ ! We're proud to be friends with both groups.

Preparing for Winter Field Day can be as simple as hunting POTA stations on your lunch break!

25 years ago today students at Luther Burbank School in Illinois made history with the world's first school-to-International Space Station contact via amateur radio.

Just weeks ago, another Illinois school—Lincoln Magnet—continued the tradition, helping cap off 2025 with 77 STEM contacts worldwide.

From 1 to thousands: Inspiring the next generation! Congratulations to all involved!

@ejo60 Eventually, on a site that hosts repositories for open-source software. Currently, only on my workstation because it's not minimally viable yet. 😅

Do you have your Amateur Radio license but haven't had a chance to get on your HT/radio? There is a group that meets once a month in Golden Gate Park called "2 meter critical mass" who help people get on the radio and meet other local hams. Next session is tomorrow (Sat)

What: 2 Meter Critical Mass Radio Practice
Where: Northwest Corner of Spreckels Lake (Near Fulton and Spreckels Lake Drive
When: 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM Saturday, February 11th

My #cabrillo #aggregator written in #perl is coming along nicely, but it’s really much more a #computer #programming thing than a #hamradio thing. That said, I will be publishing the code eventually once it handles all the mandatory stuff described in the specification.
@vk6flab If it was that, at least it didn't cook the entire transceiver! Though I fear that a repair might cost almost as much. 💸 😰
@vk6flab Same results whether I plug directly into the PC or into a powered USB hub attached to it. Can't enumerate just the one. Other devices attached to the PC or the powered hub are picked up just fine. This transceiver used to work just fine over the USB port, no low-level operating-system shenanigans necessary, until one day it didn't.
