I read this elsewhere: If trusted news outlets would start offering #Mastodon instances to their staff, that would bring some sort of verification and visibility. Think social.nytimes.com, social.heise.de etc. I'd love to read more from trusted journalists on the #fediverse and this could greatly help. (Again, not my idea but couldn't find the original author.) Boosts for visibility would be great. Reminder: Favorites don't help as on this other platform.

199,430 is the number of new users across different Mastodon servers since October 27, along with 437 new servers. This bring last day's total to 608,837 active users, which is without precedent the highest it's ever been for Mastodon and the fediverse.

Another thing to consider is what happens when an instance gets deleted, in which case your history and account are wiped: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/tootctl/. I think there’s an argument to be made that the main instance is less likely to be abandoned (or the adminstrator decides to destroy the instance).
