PhD student working on system security, side-channel security, and CPU security at @isec_tugraz, TU Graz, Austria.

Hardware equivalent of a Sticky Note

Probably will talk about #linux, #security, #systems, and #filmphotography. Oh, and also chonk the #plushtodon

Opinions posted here are my own.

I recently bought a second hand film camera and had my first-ever roll developed! Although only 13 of them were good (the night time photographs were very shaken), this one here turned out to look spectacular! Great way to start the new year! Guten Rutsch & Happy Slide!

So, Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) noticed that "adversaries ... are deploying novel AI-enabled malware in active operations".

"These tools dynamically generate malicious scripts, obfuscate their own code to evade detection, and leverage AI models to create malicious functions on demand, rather than hard-coding them into the malware."

But also VBScript

Some time ago, @notbobbytables posted about shopify showing a random number of visitors "looking at this product right now!!!" [1]

At least that was Javascript. Here, dear internet denizens, is the same crap but in CSS. The gall to do this...

Earlier this week, Jonas Juffinger and I presented our work Not So Secure TSC at #acns in Munich.

Many thanks to Jonas (https://www.jonasjuffinger.com/) and @lavados!

I've finally finished my master's thesis, which is about a feature in #AMD #sev #snp, SecureTSC. Essentially: SecureTSC leads to co-located virtual machines.

If you're interested, you can find out about it here:

AMD SEV-SNP's SecureTSC Leads to Co-located Virtual Machines

Finally! I’ve finished my Master’s degree by finally finishing my Master’s thesis, which I successfully defended on December 12th, 2024. Work done in the thesis systematically analyzes SecureTSC, a feature in AMD’s latest evolution of their confidential computing suite called SEV-SNP. With SecureTSC, SEV-SNP Virtual Machines can securely read the CPU’s Time-Stamp Counter (TSC), a register that keeps track of the cycles since the CPU’s last boot. Previously in traditional hardware-assisted virtual machines, reads to the TSC could be intercepted by the hypervisor.

Absolute unit of a chonker.

Wikipedia calls the Intel 80286 a painful experience lol.

From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86_virtualization#Virtual_8086_mode

(This is is a joke as Wikipedia redirects painful experience to Intel 80286's OS support)
