Big difference this week, with an activation of Suikerbosrand ZS/GP-014 south of Johannesburg in South Africa. Been here for work and decided to drive down to the nature reserve with a 2m handheld. 6 contacts in total, ODX being a contact into the Free State.
Lots of wildlife including a buck of some description passing near my car as I was up top activating and plenty of Long Tailed Widowbirds that looks hilarious with their streamers as a tail.
Joint activation today with Ben GW4BML who was visiting Melbourne for work. Picked him up from his hotel, and headed to Camel's Hump VK3/VC-040 and Mount Gisborne VK3/VC-039 before lunch and dropping him off for his afternoon meetings.
Worked JA from both summits and VK6 from Mt Gisborne, plus summit-to-summits with Andrew VK1AD on Mt Stromlo. Fun day with good company and a roo sighting for the foreigner 😀
Ben on Mt Gisborne:
Traditional #sota activation today for double points courtesy of timezone shenanigans (UTC New Year's is 11am here).
Went up Mt St Phillack VK3/VT-006 behind Mt Baw Baw. Frantic activity for most of the day so neglected to take a photo of the station, but did get visited by this little fella after I packed up. My last trip up on the Baw Baw plateau had two different danger noodle interactions so I much prefer the smaller varieties with legs!
