Check it out our new preprint. We applied our recent method `SFRatios` to estimate selection coefficients for all 134 ordered pairs of synonymous codon changes. Results indicate that natural selection on synonymous codons is weak but sufficient to define codon fitnesses that strongly correlates with observed codon frequencies. Indeed, a model of codon usage with mutation, drift and selection predicts the data better than a model with only mutation and drift.
