@movq Is there an echo in here?
@Rp12Biker That's actually a pen plotter. It has four colored pens in it. It was originally released for the VIC-20 as the VIC-1520.
@hp #forth programmers do it for everything.
@peron Startup-Sequence
@blakespot The Amiga had much better graphics only a year later, but still not as good as laserdisc.

It’s not in fashion, but if you’re at all curious about Pascal, Jeff Duntemann has just updated his tutorial book, FreePascal from Square One, and released it for free. See http://www.contrapositivediary.com/?p=5399 for details; the book is available from http://www.contrapositivediary.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/FreePascalFromSquareOne-5-7-2025.pdf and you can visit https://www.freepascal.org/ for info on FreePascal, and https://www.lazarus-ide.org/ for the Lazarus IDE — both are probably available in your favourite distribution (apt install lazarus in Debian and derivatives).

The Curious Case of Jupiter Ace

Why was BASIC so important to home computers and could Forth have displaced it?

Programming at the right level
@salvatorelasorella How many seconds per frame?

@thelastpsion When I got into computers in 1983 it was for programming, not games.

A friend had received a VIC-20 and I went to see it. I typer in the first program in the user guide and thought, if I change this, it will do that, and it worked and I thought to myself, this has potential to be very powerful. By Christmas I had convinced my parents to get me one.

I learned BASIC and how to make custom characters for my own games on my VIC-20 and went from there. I still don't play games much. I see gaming as an opiate for the masses, like religion, sports and other entertainment.

@scruss @profoundlynerdy Yes. When she started the project it was to create what a successor to the Commodore 128, a Commodore 256, might have been. She even consulted with Bil Herd on it. Now it can have a variety of 8-bit CPUs.
