I'm a retired gentleman from Scotland who has just discovered a renewed interest in vintage buses and other transport in the UK. My daily PC driver is #linuxmint which I love. #vintagebuses #scotland

Tragically, most Chevrolet Vegas that spent the last five decades above ground don't look this good.

I'm going to try a new more comfortable way of taking photos at transport museums and other venues. I've got a nice smartphone handle (not a gimbal) to hold the Pixel 9a securely and it also has a wrist strap.

I've also got a bluetooth shutter button to take photos and videos without having to touch the 9a.

On the 16 August I'm heading to Dunfermline, to the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum, to try this new system out. Saves me carrying a heavy camera about.

Took up Google's offer and got Β£150 off a new Pixel 9a.

Darn it - got a message from Google already. My #pixel6a will be affected.

"Battery update from hell" to hit Google Pixel 6a on July 8, Google offers compensation

Google is significantly reducing the battery life and charging performance of select Pixel 6a devices via a mandatory update for Android 16. Users who are affected by these "battery optimizations" may be entitled to compensation.

I need your help - please boost.

This is a 1:76 scale bus, with no box. It has been crudely painted with Glasgow Corporation livery. On searching the internet, nothing came up and AI suggested it could be a Daimler CWA6 with the Waymann body.

There is no model # , all that's on the underside is 'Corgi', 'Waymann' and 'Corgi Original Omnibus'. The white lettering came up with nothing.

The adverts don't match anything online either. Do you know the real bus's specifications?

#vintagebuses

@vintagebuses
It's not in their current range here: https://uk.corgi.co.uk/catalogue/brand/original-omnibus but there are a few for sale on eBay that look similar. However, they all look much better finished and the chassis doesn't look well defined, which makes me think it's a copy, or possibly some kind of pre-production design.
Original Omnibus

The Original Omni-bus range brings the most accurate die-cast models to life. Each 1:76 scaled replica includes a perspex display box and a bespoke limited edition certificate.

Corgi UK

@simon

Thank you

Yes I've visited that site. It looks very much to me as if the chassis has been removed at one point but I'm surprised there's no Corgi model number. Having said that, Exclusive First Editions did not put their model number on the chassis, just on the box of my Leyland Triton TD1.

I'm just trying to establish if it's a Daimler or not and to get the full specifications of the bus the model is supposed to represent.

Thanks for replying.

@vintagebuses I might be wrong, but I recall Corgi promos (stuff that came from cereal send-aways, and probably local operator versions) having less info on the bottom when I was a kid.

On purely visuals alone, it looks like one of these: https://www.rmtoys.co.uk/products/corgi-1-76-om40403-aec-regent-weymann-london-transport-r351?srsltid=AfmBOor5gIsADTrr0-tIj5Sju06VDdzhD8cER1KuBl0PbsU3OggLp-3JNXs&gQT=2

If that helps.

@beer_mat_movies Hi there.

Yes it looks very much like my counterfeit Glasgow Corporation bus. Thanks for finding that for me. I'll check it out further.

Whoever attempted to repaint my model (with an unsteady hand), may have changed the interior as well. A rivet has been drilled out on the chassis.

Thanks again @beer_mat_movies and to the others who helped.

Case closed πŸ˜ƒ

@vintagebuses A bit of lightly applied (and monitored, with quick wipe offs when needed) paint stripper or 99% isopropyl alcohol should lift the 'new' paint if it's acrylic based, if that will help identify the original model.

I can't tell from the picture what kind of paint it is, but I imagine it'd be a kid-friendly acrylic, and the original would be a hard-wearing enamel. However I don't know anything about these models, so can't say for certain.

Just be careful about any stripper near the 'windows', some paint strippers will interact with clear plastic and cause them to irreversibly fog.

@beer_mat_movies

I'm not sure I have the time to strip back the paint, although much as I love the Glasgow Corporation livery, I feel that this is a travesty and should not have been attempted.

This certainly looks like the same model, judging by the side images I've managed to find, except for the radiator grill, which looks like a botch up job. The wing mirrors and other bits are missing too.

Restoring it to its orginal London Transport green livery would certainly be a challenge.

@vintagebuses Yeah, I've changed my mind since I posted that, which could explain something else about the model.

Previously I was thinking a kid did it in their bedroom, but now I'm near certain an adult was either behind this or heavily overseeing the project. The giveaway is the ads, destinations and crests.

I believe it would have been repainted to fit a larger scene, which leaves two possibilities, a model railway or a school project/diorama.

Although I don't know how the scale works, I favour the model railway theory given the crests on the side would have had to be specially done.

The rivet was drilled to allow the interior and windows to be removed for painting, possibly stripping the original paint as part of the process.

Anyone who paints Warhammer to a reasonable standard would be able to strip that for you and do the colour scheme again properly. :)

@beer_mat_movies

Worth looking into re restoration. It's sad to think that someone's took all the time and trouble to find all the transfers, destination board and Glasgow coat-of-arms, yet the paintwork is so amateur.

Perhaps it was only meant to be viewed from a distance.

Incidentally, the radiator grill and attached headlamp fell off. The headlamp does not match the headlamp on the right, which is attached to the body.

@vintagebuses If we take "SP 10/01" as a signature rather than a serial number, it'd be logical to assume that someone with the initials "SP" made this in October of 2001.

That would track with the paint quality, off whites and yellows were notoriously bad acrylic model paints at that time.

Around that time it was easy enough to order custom transfers in the modelling hobby if you knew where to go online through the message boards, now (obviously) it's unbelievably simple

Assuming they are transfers and not printed paper sealed with a matte varnish, I can't tell from the pictures.

@beer_mat_movies

Looking closely through a magnifying glass, there is a neat clear even border around the small Glasgow coat-of-arms, suggesting to me that it may well be a transfer.

@vintagebuses That's definitely a transfer, and tracks with the apparent signature date. Nowadays we have modelling products that would dissolve that border.

If the side advertisements are also transfers it's certainly a bespoke job that someone's put effort into, white ink on a clear transfer sheet is not something that can be achieved on a home printer.

As for the distance you mentioned, in wargaming there's a "two foot rule", equivalent to half a standard gaming board, if it looks like what it should at that distance, it's good enough. Anything more would be reserved for featured models. I think this was a background piece for something larger.

Might be worth emailing the local history society to see if they remember a display this would have fit in from around that time.

@beer_mat_movies

Well luckily I've got a source of where I could trace this back. I bought this model at the last visit to the Bridgeton Bus Garage, where the chap had various Glasgow Corporation models on display.

the first chance I get, the next open day, I'll take this fake back to him and ask him if he knows the history. I'll give him no hassle, 'bought as seen' is the rule. All I need is more info.

I'm so glad I picked up this dud. My eyes were fooled by the livery. did not check.
