London’s buses haven't always been strictly red.
After 1984, competitive tendering allowed private operators to use their own colourful liveries. It wasn't until the mid-1990s that the government mandated a return to uniform red to protect the city’s iconic brand and image.

"Battle of the Buses" is a wonderful #BBC #documentary from 1980 on #londonbuses. I'm really enjoying the throwback. Please find it inside their archive channel.

Mam found a picture I've searched for for years. I'd remembered it as a kid— my lovely Nan, as a #conductor on the #LondonBuses c.1950s. SO precious (AEC Regent III apparently & poss Wood Green 'WG'? servicing Tottenham, Edmonton, Crouch End, Haringey, Finsbury Park etc.) ❤️

When there was still a heritage bus route in
London. I've heard that the last of routes ended around the time of Covid. I got on one not long after this photograph. 💙❤️

Also I geek out on Green Line bus history to learn that Superloop was first proposed in 1946.
