adb@idlehirn it is an #encrypted, #private, #decentralized, multi-platform #chat app, with good multi-device and multi-profile support
with it you don't depend on a single server, all your data, chats and contacts live in your pocket, e2e encrypted, without depending on a particular server, you can easily migrate from server to server without losing any chat or groups! it will smoothly work even without your contacts getting bother about it!
it also has #offlineFirst in-chat mini-games and tools!
Delta Chat#deltachat does
- no bindings to public handles/numbers
- no address-book upload
- not do public contact or group discovery
- not have critical persistent server state (!)
Social identification is private, between people though ephemeral #P2P #E2EE messages.
Servers see messages with random sender and recipient addresses, but those can not be mapped to a phone number or public handle. Servers see IP addresses. But you can use Tor, or a VPN, if you want to hide that.
It' not all bad :)
My federation issue was with the server being blocked by default at Hetzner.
Unblocked and working now.
It looks like Hetzner blocks port 25 and 465 by default for new VPSs.
I've asked for my servers to be unblocked.

Would lack of federation be indicated by the message "Establishing connection, please wait “ on the clients ?

No worries , happy to help decentralise the network a little.
I guess it is somewhat like the fediverse where most people sign-up on the main mastodon instances to start with and then migrate elsewhere later.
If I can find these statistics then I'll happily post them.
So far it has cost 13.91 Euros / year for the domain name and 3.49 Euros / month VPS.
