Lars Marius Garshol (en)I've been arguing that the Tory austerity policy from 2008 onwards caused Brexit by causing economic hardship, which again caused voter discontent leading to pro-Brexit votes as a form of protest. Now there's hard research data indicating that's exactly what happened.
You could argue (as I have) that the story of British politics from 2008 onwards is the tories punishing voters economically and voters then asking for more punishment.
