Late last year I drafted @victoryfish into playing Kingdom of Dyflin, the expansion to Great Heathen Army by Amabel Holland, with me. It was a lot of fun and now after some time I have written quite a few words on both the game and its expansion. https://www.stuartellisgorman.com/blog/review-great-heathen-army-and-the-kingdom-of-dyflin-by-amabel-holland
Review: Great Heathen Army and the Kingdom of Dyflin by Amabel Holland — Stuart Ellis-Gorman

My review of Amabel Holland's Great Heathen Army, about Viking warfare in medieval Britain, and its expansion the Kingdom of Dyflin, which moves the conflict to Ireland. This is an excellent relatively light hex and counter game that has a lot going for it but also just a few things holding it back

Playing a venerable classic at the moment: Manassas by Rick Britton, first published over 40 years ago. Playing it in multiple sessions, this is about 4 hours into the game and not quite halfway through the battle. So far I'm really liking it - very interesting design.
New year, new project. This year I'm planning to deep dive into ACW games to consider how the represent history and the influence of the Lost Cause. I've got some initial reading and a small stack of games to try but would love recommendations for more of either.

I am going to run a wargame design jam. "Postcards from the Front" design a wargame to fit onto a 5x7 postcard.

For the last 6 weeks we've been play testing some extra cards for RFOP. I wanted to show a couple of them here.
Let's start with "La colonne Vendôme". Built in 1806-10 it was commissioned to celebrate Napoleon's victory at Austerlitz. During the Commune, painter Gustave Courbet argues that the monument is a tribute to chauvinism and warmongering and therefor should be disassembled and preserved in the Hôtel des Invalides.
Experimenting with “the look” for medieval games. Loving the postcard format too.
This weekend’s challenge - unsure whether to start with the Quick-Start rules or just go straight to the main ones!
