Recently the NYT published an op-ed titled "Why the Pandemic Probably Started in a Lab, in 5 Key Points" [1]. Vincent Racaniello and the gang at TWiV do a great job discussing, rebutting and flat-out disproving these "5 Key Points" in the TWiV episode "SARS-CoV2 still didn't come from a lab" [2]. Worth a listen!

I recently finished the audiobook edition of "Scientist E. O. Wilson: A Life in Nature" by Richard Rhodes.

What a great book! So many fascinating tidbits about one of the most down to earth yet also one of the most eminent scientists there ever was. I highly recommend it.

It makes sense, but I had no idea that he was contemporaries with Watson and Crick.

Usually when I take photographs of birds, getting a catchlight in the eye is critical to the shot. It creates a sense of consciousness or even soul in these birds.

But in the thick fog something interesting happens with these plovers. There's no possibility of a catchlight, just a very faint trace of the horizon line. That impenetrably dark eye takes on an infinite depth that pulls you in and doesn't let go.

Yesterday we had a reprieve from the rain in the CA Bay Area and took the opportunity to take a walk. All of the #urbanNature did as well. So many birds and squirrels! #urbanPhotography #birds #BirdsOfTheBayArea
