My latest idea is a system of 5 pathways on each FW & Hack. Hack can only get through if it has an unblocked path or more force icons than the FW stack in a blocked path. Then to destroy the FW and score points Hack has to be stronger.
In the new design, 'paths' will show up on every card, so cards can be added from hand to increase attack/defense in the paths. Cards added from hand get trashed (discarded) after the hack resolves.
This feels much more like hacking, mechanics matching theme. 2/2

Been doing more iterations on my hacker vs hacker card game design.
My hacking mechanic felt flat and predictable, which is bad for a game about hacking. Previous iterations of it were too much mental math. So I simplified and trimmed the hacking rules until it was a single number comparison.
Like this image, increasing/lowering a single stat got boring, didn't feel like hacking at all.
