Many of these complaints have been leveled at other platforms including Quora, StackOverflow, Facebook, Twitter, et. al.
It comes down to how well people behave and how well the developers document and communicate what needs to be done.
I've seen a fair number of "missing the [Twitter] algorithm" complaints on the Web when people talk about Mastodon. I actually spent years fighting the Twitter algorithm. Even under whathisname, the raw algorithm is too overwhelming. I've learned to use filters and block functions on every social media platform. That's not a perfect solution to anything, as I might block someone on one platform and follow them on another (and vice versa).
Apparently, we haven't learned much from 25+ years of online socializing.
