“It is often said the UK is not a rich country, but a poor society with some very rich people. It is now similarly true that the UK is not a regressive country, but increasingly a progressive society with some very regressive people holding most of the power. And our economic and political system, in both cases, serves those two minorities. The rest of us slowly check out, and are told the problem isn’t the diminishing vision of what is possible, but our apathy.”

British people are kinder and less divided than politicians give us credit for

On urgent issues from strikes to the climate, voters are increasingly progressive. If only our so-called leaders would catch up, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

I saw this bird today but did not hear it sing so I am identifying it as a Willow Warbler (based on its feet are lighter than that of a Chiffchaff). if it sang, it would have been easier to identify.

Have you got it yet? Suffragettes had to send a total of 17,000 petitions to parliament before women won the right to vote.

It wasn't just the petitions that won it for them, but they helped keep the issue in the public eye.

So will you please make like a suffragette and sign a petition to stop new oil and gas mining in the U.K.?

Petition: Stop all new oil and gas developments

We want the Government to stop all new oil and gas developments, including the planned Rosebank Field Development.

Hi peeps, I'm thinking I need an app to manage my meds, I take paracetamol every 4 hours or so and sometimes I forget and so take a dose later and then can't remember when I took it.

What I would like is an app that would alert me, which if I'm in the middle of something I can postpone, and then when I do take the dose and log it in the app it then starts the next interval of 4 hours to alert me for the next dose.

I regret to inform you all that the Wombles have been moved on from Wimbledon Common by the Metropolitan Police exercising their powers under §60E of the Police, Justice and Public Order Act 1994, as amended by the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022. Great Uncle Bulgaria refused to leave when requested to do so by a duly appointed constable, and is currently serving a 10 week sentence in HMP Wandsworth.

It's #WaterfallWednesday already? Yay!

Here's Koosah Falls on the upper McKenzie River in the Oregon Cascades. Koosah drops about 20 m off the end of a 3000 year old lava flow. But one of the things I love about Koosah are the springs near its base (not shown here). The upper McKenzie gains about 6 m3/s of flow through small springs & upwelling within a few kms because of huge, cold groundwater systems in the young lava.
