@erin I think it definitely depends on what the audience is. 99% of people use the same password for everything. Not letting them use a password is far safer.
@erin @eri Is this not the case already? What service doesn't let you get back into the account if you have email access?

Students discover that vending machines on campus had a built in camera for facial recognition and profiling of students.

Instead of students coming up to a passive vending machine and making their own choice, the machine uses facial recognition to taylor the menu in order to boost sales.

— Because we all want a world were AI is leveraged to push more sugar to everyone.

@torepang @authenyo I get that, but I also think it's pointless to get annoyed at every person who feels like that. If you wanted to create an economy where you don't give anyone any money unless they agree with your opinions, then you'll starve.

I also really don't think anyone is going to be more likely to recognise your gender identity because you got upset with them and tried to "cancel" their search engine they made. Realistically, that person isn't making any sort of effort to make your life harder, they're actually making cool software that makes your life better and the politics that does drive it (anti-surveillance) is something that you do agree on.

You don't need to agree on everything just to appreciate someone's work.

@authenyo @torepang meh, i know this is an unpopular opinion but like... why should i get upset about that? it's not a big deal. I would've cared about that sorta thing a few years ago, but I'm a lot more apathetic now and I think complaining on social media about someone who used a word that you find offensive really doesn't do anything useful.

Sure, if they were shoving their opinions in my face on the homepage of the website, that would be annoying. But to me it seems like the philosophy behind the project is to avoid that sort of thing and the maintainer doesn't want microsoft forcing their bloat and ads and spammy msn news and everything into their search results. seems pretty reasonable.

@authenyo @torepang the project itself seems pretty apolitical. what good does it do society to bring politics into a random open-source project? are we not allowed to appreciate cool software because the author has different opinions on certain topics?

people are way too political. you don't need to make every topic an 'us vs them' situation. you can even be friends with people who have different politics to you and compliment their work.

@esm innovation ✨
@eblu @kitsunecafe You mean you want to still get push notifications but not the more subtle indication that a channel has unread messages? Why? It's not public, do you just find it distracting?
@esm obviously he's just saying this because nvidia profits from the AI hype, but it's so sad that he knows what he's doing and is happy to pollute the culture saying dumb shit he knows is false and that actually affects people just to make line go brr
