@csalzman@george It’s more than just that though because it’s trying to describe an *increase* in the amount of loneliness. I see that usually attributed to the steady erosion of traditional social frameworks like church, civic orgs, community-centered third places, etc that provided default, low-effort socialization. The male part of it is that those changes are having the greatest effect of men and they are comparatively less able to handle it than women.
I am a man in late middle age but am still very amused by how much airports look like Richard Scarry’s “Busytown” with all the odd-looking, purpose-specific vehicles zipping to and fro.
The boarding process: “We’d like to welcome our active duty service members. Diamond level Travelstar card holders. Parents with small children. People with airline-branded credit cards. Investors in our parent company’s class A stock. Those holding active lottery tickets. Anyone with freckles. Unaccompanied service animals.” [stares out at mostly empty gate area, sighs deeply] “…and Bob.”
