Surely this new video won't make me seem like a crank. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEJpZjg8GuA
No surprise — I agree very much with Cory Doctorow’s advice to use an RSS reader.
And, even though I write an RSS reader, I also agree wholeheartedly with this part:
“Don't worry about which RSS reader you start with. It literally doesn't matter.”
Just pick one! Based on anything. You can shop around, or not, later.

How do you feel about any site being able to call `document.browsingTopics()`to learn all about you?

I did a little work swapping out and repositioning my microphone in my home studio, and took the opportunity to record a video. It was really hard to hit publish on this. I can see all the flaws. But I also wasn't even supposed to be doing this today so I didn't want to take more time on it.
Would love to hear if you found this useful & want more bite sized things like this, or if you have suggestions for what would make future videos better for you.
We passed an anti-price gouging law in Portland years ago that is simple and brilliant.
Every store inside the airport must sell items at the same price they’d be in a normal store inside city limits.
It’s a bit of a shock when you buy a bottle of water there for $2, then on your return trip it’s $8 somewhere else.
Every airport in every city should have this law.
"I am not providing you something that you bought from me. There is no relationship. I put something online because I wanted to. The fact you made your product depend on it is your responsibility. Not mine. Not the one of the providers. We provide libraries. We do not supply them. You cannot apply rules to me."
"You are not buying from a supplier, you are a raccoon digging through dumpsters for free code."

For the past few years, we have seen a lot of discussions around the concept of the Software Supply Chain. These discussions started around the time of LeftPad and escalated with multiple incidents in the past few years. The problem of all the work in this domain is that it forgets a fundamental point.
