I did a little work swapping out and repositioning my microphone in my home studio, and took the opportunity to record a video. It was really hard to hit publish on this. I can see all the flaws. But I also wasn't even supposed to be doing this today so I didn't want to take more time on it.

Would love to hear if you found this useful & want more bite sized things like this, or if you have suggestions for what would make future videos better for you.

Nice versus Kind

YouTube
@testobsessed
Nice vs kind? What is the difference? Elizabeth explains. Thank you.
@k9ox Thank you so much. Your words mean the world to me. Seeing your kindness in action, even in challenging circumstances, taught me a great deal about how to be kind.
@k9ox @testobsessed I remember my physics teacher telling us that "nice" means "precise" or "exact" Historically, it meant "wanton" or "dissolute".
@testobsessed yes, please!
@testobsessed (I mean, I've already shared it twice, so ...)
@testobsessed Wow 🤩! That was so good. Short, interesting, well paced … loved it. Please, keep them coming.

I see an improvement opportunity in the toot. Speculating that is of interest to you: Depending on circumstances, your toot's readers may or may not get to see a preview picture of your video.

For those of us who don't get to see such a preview picture (happened to me when seeing it via a boost by @k9ox in the amateur radio corner of the Fediverse), and who also don't know you, the toot offers no clue whatsoever regarding the topic of your video.

@testobsessed

@testobsessed Definitely enjoyed it and the stories really grounded it - the confusion of terms, the interview story - thanks for sharing these
@testobsessed I found this very helpful, and you did a great job describing the difference. I think I’ve been trying to find this distinction for a long time without understanding it. I’ve used nice too often when I meant to be kind, and the results were not what was intended.
@lonne thank you so much! Very glad it was helpful.

@testobsessed @purinkle Thank you for taking the time to speak about this distinction. I’ve found kindness and niceness to be commonly confused - possibly because superficial niceness is a part of cultural norms - often devoid of true commitment to kindness.

Because you requested feedback:

I recommend you adjust the framing so that you are a bit further from the camera, and your eyes align with the top third of the screen.

Here’s an image I created to illustrate:

@andreimoment @purinkle thank you! Super helpful illustration.
