My cartoon for this week's @[email protected]
Indeed it does.

I just muted a guy trying to post a 'universal equation' and who used no citations to good peer reviewed papers for it. Beware and don't trust everything you see on the internet, as Gandalf famously said.

The closest thing we have now (early 2025 if you are reading this from the future) to a 'universal equation' is the standard model Lagrangian and it is SUPER LONG (a full page), and would be really awkward to try to put into a post.

Take a look at it yourself:

The deconstructed Standard Model equation

The Standard Model is far more than elementary particles arranged in a table.

This Jenny Holzer installation is right next to the top floor bathroom at the Guggenheim, and it’s about as prescient as it gets.

The great thing about the recent #NetNeutrality court decision is that it allows service providers to get into the #enshittification game. Now they’re no longer required to observe neutrality with respect to content sources, they can (a) deliver an inferior experience to consumers – phase 1 of enshittification, per @pluralistic – AND (b) extort more money from content providers – phase 2.

Welcome to Year 0 of the true enshittocene, when ubiquitous enshittification REALLY kicks into high gear.

Imagine walking up to someone 15 years ago and going
"Hey, in the future Google will just flat out make shit up sometimes"
"What"
"Yeah, like there will be a time where you can search for a movie that doesn't exist, and it'll show you trailers, articles discussing it, who's directing it, interviews from the actors, and all of it will just be completely fake and presented as real"
"What the hell are you talking about"
"Yeah and it won't just be Google either, Microsoft and other big companies will be touting it as a revolution worth billions of dollars, as their products make shit up on the spot thousands of times a day"
"Dude, are you high"
"Entire product lines will be rebranded around their lightning fast make-shit-up technology, and they'll even try to sell this making shit up as a creativity tool for writers and artists"
"Get the fuck away from me, I'm calling the police"

In the 2000s I went back to look at a #Usenet newsgroup which had been a major part of my online life in the 1990s. All the people had gone, but the spambots were still there. The entire contents of the group were just bot spam, automatically generated and posted at nobody to be read by no one. The bots were even replying to one another’s threads with more spam. A forum where genuine human interactions had forged friendships and fostered community over some years had dwindled to nothing more than grift machines trying to sell crap to each other.

20 years later the same shit is going down again with a new coat of #AI paint, this time with revenue and shareholders involved.

Meta’s AI Profiles Are Already Polluting Instagram and Facebook With Slop

Hollow-eyed insincere robot posters are already flooding Meta's sites and they're everything we dreaded.

Worldview: Meloni is not bringing Italian post-fascism back to the centre ground and moderating it, but is polishing up a dangerous anti-democratic throwback

Wild. The most amazing footage maybe ever of Sun Ra with the full Arkestra in Berlin Nov 7, 1970 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp29FTEnPJg

Tks to Jay Korber for procuring this rare tv broadcast. It was heavily edited for tv, the unedited audio was released by Joachim-Ernst Berendt as part of a double CD "Black Myth/Out In Space" on his MPS label. This show appears on CD2/track1 as a 37m45s track: "Out In Space"
