For #MountainMonday I have a rather old photograph I made way back in 2011. The lesson from this one was to wait until the sunset is absolutely, positively, finished before heading back to the car. This one may have involved some running. :)

The amount of mosquitoes didn't help matters!

Eine meiner Lieblingsbirken. Vor allem wenn es im Frühling mit hübschem Grün dann auch noch Nebel hat.

Saplings, Scotland's Ancient Caledonian Forest (2024).

Oh what glorious autumn light does to the landscape. It was a joy to witness this hillside covered in young pine saplings, slowly expanding the edges of the forest. The sun took its time to come over the Corbetts to the south, but when it did, it struck golden life into the landscape and caught the tops of the wee foreground pines beautifully.

Some of my favorite #Colorado autumn #photos I captured in 2023.

Contemplation
Both of us were awestruck by this unfolding light show. One evening to remember.

Over on the Instagrams, I recently shared some photos I've made in Oklahoma over the years. I received several comments and messages expressing surprise over the scenery... I, too, had some (very wrong) assumptions about Oklahoma's landscapes before my first photography trip there in 2019.

This set of 4 photos were all made at the same park in the southeast corner of the state.

Colorful Desert Symphony (2024)

The vibrant layers of autumn trees create a symphony of color, set against the muted desert tones of the understory. The golds and oranges glow with a fiery intensity, contrasting beautifully with the soft greens and purples below. This scene felt like nature’s celebration of the changing seasons, an explosion of life in an arid environment. Which colors in this desert palette speak most to you?

Twisted Pine (My Heart's in the Highlands), Scotland (2024).

This seemed a fitting image to share on Valentine's Day, as the first thing I saw from this viewpoint was the heart-shaped loch. The autumn colour this last year was absolutely exceptional — quite unlike anything I'd seen in Scotland before — and this location showed that off in spades.

Fleeting conditions in between squalls often give you little time to react. I was lying in my tent patiently waiting for the light to change. Suddenly, I hear my friend yelling "Morgan! You gotta get out here!" - I quickly got on my feet and practically waltzed over to this composition I found earlier and captured this rainbow in front of Mount Macdonald.
