Fun reminder that Lucille Ball is the only reason that Star Trek exists.

As the head of Desilu Productions, she green-lighted a pilot; then when it was deemed "too cerebral" by the networks, funded a financially-risky SECOND pilot that got the series picked up by NBC.

New study gave $7,500 to 50 unhoused people.

Guess what?

"They did not spend more money on alcohol or drugs, contrary to what people believe, and instead they spent the money on rent, food, housing, transit, furniture, a used car, clothes. It's entirely the opposite of what people think they're going to do with the money."

This makes me sick. The religious right is doing everything it can to deprive children and adolescents the opportunity to learn and think. Books/audiobooks:

Anne of Green Gables and sequels (based on your username, I’m guessing they’re already on your list)

Christy, by Catherine Marshall (there also was a TV adaptation)

I think a fair amount of Ann Patchett’s work might fall into this category; The Magician’s Assistant and State of Wonder are two of my favorites.
