#productdesign leaders: Do you find your team is quick to jump to solutions without understanding the why? Or conversely, do they get stuck in analysis paralysis and resist transitioning to delivery? I'd love to hear from you if a framework like this might help the team know when they're on the right track.
At Lab Zero, we often had to navigate the need for speed and the need to ensure solutions are valuable and viable. To set our teams and clients up for success, we've been experimenting with a framework to determine when we need to bring back more discovery and validation and when we can press forward (with guardrails in place.)

#Design Folks: Part 2 of my series on understanding and addressing gaps in discovery is now up on
Mind the Product!

Last time, I discussed ways to find the "why" behind a solution already in progress. In this article, I look at discovery gaps you might encounter and how to address them.

Mind the Product
A small sketch diary of this sweet little cardinal family. The babies fledged a few days ago, but I still occasionally hear them calling to their parents from the bushes just beyond my back fence. I miss having them around! Good luck little bebes.

The first article in this two-part series reverses Torres' Opportunity Solution Tree to establish a connection between the ongoing solution, customer opportunities, and business outcomes.

The second (coming soon!) will explore strategies for identifying gaps in your team's discovery and the necessary measures to mitigate risks.

Have you tried something like this with your team? Feedback is appreciated!

My latest #ProductDiscovery article is up on Mind the Product!

I often encounter teams immersed in a solution yet lacking a shared understanding of the customer opportunity they're addressing. I'd like to share a framework I've been experimenting with to address that challenge.

@ttorres 's book Continuous Discovery Habits helped me articulate a process for asking questions and bridging gaps when joining a new team with a solution already in progress.

I don’t know how to deal with the big problems but if we can learn anything from cicadas it’s that the little problems can be solved by screaming

I've worn many hats while working in #ProductDesign, and I'm looking for a collaborative environment focused on learning with space for career development.

If you have opportunities, advice, or are open to chatting about what you've been up to, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you!
