I love watching other people find themselves in ways I find entirely unrelatable. Trans dudes loving their masculinity. Non-binary people confusing the crap out of me. Altersex folks and their body mods. Gay dudes being into other dudes. I don't get any of it, it's not for me, but it's beautiful. 🥰

I also find it profoundly healing. I thought my own needs were weird and therefore disallowed for so many years. Seeing other people fill their needs in ways I don't understand makes me feel like it's okay to fill my needs, even if other people like my family don't understand. Others understanding isn't the point. Living as whole, free people is. 💜

I used to think, “Well if Apple just made a sandboxing system that goes beyond the App Store and is also enforced on side-loaded apps, it'd be great!”, but sandboxing alone isn't a solution. We need a steward that decides on a case-by-case basis access to APIs that allow profile building on users. APIs that can and will be abused. And the likes of Meta would simply make their own store and force people to use it, count on it. We'd be worse off than we are right now.

And another #unpopularopinion on the Digital Markets Act. lol. Everyone will hate me: Side-loading will make everything worse. The current model of trust in the App Store (I agree some of it is security theater and most of it is Apple wanting a huge monetary piece of the pie, which is why we're at this point in the first place) paired with sandboxing and limited access to APIs is a very fine line to walk. iOS does so better than anyone else and yet they improve upon it with every release.

Here's an #unpopularopinion on the Digital Markets Act :D I think Apple Pay should remain the only viable solution on iOS to access payment features of the NFC chip. The only ones who would benefit from opening this would be large banking institutions but at a huge cost to ease of use to the consumer. The consumer would lose in every case.

I hugely appreciate the mass appeal of mastodon dot social but it would be nice to have a home away from the masses that plays into federation and quite frankly also immediately tells something about you.

I also need to throw some money at whoever is shouldering the infrastructure and admin cost.
