Is this (unified attestation) an analog of whatever it is that google does in apps that ends up with things like banking apps needing google services? Or am I thinking of something completely different?

The results of the study that this article reports upon is that if atmospheric CO₂ levels continue to rise at the current rate then within several decades (50-odd years) our blood chemistry will be altered such that healthy homeostasis will be compromised.

So if you are concerned about water scarcity, sea level rise, damage due to floods and storms, crop failures, war, pestilence, and mass migrations here is something to add to the list of things driving us all toward a mass extinction event.

Stop fossil fuels. Stop war.

Rising carbon dioxide levels now detected in human blood

Rising carbon dioxide levels are being detected within the human body, with new research warning a key blood marker for the gas could near its healthy limit within decades if current trends continue. The findings are especially relevant for children and adolescents, whose developing bodies will experience the longest cumulative exposure to rising atmospheric CO₂.

I have a copy of this. I can wholeheartedly recommend it as grade A adventure, generally excellent, and just an absolute delight to read.

Looking through customs documents to try and figure out what the excise on some hard drives might be, and I find that Section XVI, Chapter 84, Notes1(d) of the Working Tariff Document of New Zealand, updated in August 2025, has a specific reference to "Jacquard or similar machines"
I couldn't explain exactly why, but it makes me a little bit happy.

Randall Munroe's #XKCD comic has the power to make you laugh, to make you think ... and sometimes to make you cry. For the right reasons.

Wishing another fifteen (and many more) to Randall Munroe, his wife (name unknown but it's not Megan), and everyone else. #FuckCancer
